HomeMy WebLinkAbout77-105RESOLUTION NO. 77-105 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA HONORING ROBBRTO DE LA MADRID, NEWLY ELECTED GOVERNOR OF BAJA, CALIFORNIA NORTE, MEXICO, AND PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 2S THROUGH 30 AS "ROBERTO DE LA MADRID WEEK" WHEREAS, ROBERTO DE LA MADRID received a mandate from the 1.3 million citizens of Baja, California Norte, when they overwhelmingly elected him Governor on August ?, 1977; and WHEREAS, ROBERTO DE LA MADRID was born in Calexico, Cali- fornia, thus making him the first United States born Governor in Mexican history; and WHEREAS, ROBERTO DE LA MADRID has continued his close ties with the American People throughout his life; and WHEREAS , ROBERTO DE LA MADRID has lived and worked at various times in the United States of America as a student and a businessman; and WHEREAS, ROBERTO DE LA MADRID has dedicated more than a quarter of a century of service to his country; and WHEREAS, ROBERTO DE LA MADRID has compiled outstanding contributions and achievements in various positions, including: Board of Material Betterment, Director of Economic Development, Director of Tourism, Director of National Lottery, and a National Senator; and WHEREAS, ROBERTO DE LA ~IRDRID's acute understanding of American mores and culture, coupled with proven skills in both the business and political arenas, promises an expansion in the already amiable relationship between the communities of Baja and Southern California; NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Santa Ana, California, U.S.A., do hereby resolve that ROBERTO DE LA MADRID is to be honored and con- gratulated on his election to the office of Governor of the State of Baja, California Norte, Mexico, and we do hereby proclaim the week of September 25 through September 30, 1977 as: "ROBERTO DE LA MADRID WEEK'! in the City of Santa Ana on the occasion of his visit to Orange County, and the banquet to be held in his honor on September 30, 1977.
