Leases On motion of Counc!!me~ Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, proper officials Central Orange County Girl Scout Council and were authorized to ex, cute the following leases: With Central Orauge County Girl Boy Scouts of America, Orange ~lmpire Council Scout Council for leasing of certain space in the east portion of Building T-12 at 1030 West Eighth Street, Rooms 1 to 20 inclusive, at a rental of $100.00 a month, and with Boy Scouts of America, Orange Empire Council for leasing of certain space in the west portion of Building T-12 at 1032 West Eighth Street, Room_ ~ 1 to 13 in- clusive, at a rental of $125.00 per month. Contract On motion of Counci!ma~ Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, proper officials Coates, Herfurth and England, were authorized to execute contract with Coates, Herfurth and ~ngland, Consulting Consulting Actuaries Retirement). Actuaries, dated March 3, 1958, for actuarial survey to determine costs providing (State ~ for the inclusion of Sections' 21337 and 21264 in the contract with the State Employees' Retirement System. Variance On motion of Counctlmn Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the recommendation Alfons G. Nelson ~ ~ 1 ~ of the planning C~mmt ssion was approved and the variance of Alfons G. Nelson granted to permit construction of five buildings - four two-story, five-~n~t apart- merit buildings, and one one-story, three-unit apartment building, the one-story building to be located on the easternmost portion of the property at 411 South Artesia Street, in an R-1 District, subject to conditions imposed by the Planning C.~ission and the Department of Public Works. Variance On motion of Councflm-~ Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the recommendation Alfred and Ivy Hunter of the Planning Cr~m, fSsion was approved and the variance of Alfred and Ivy Hunter granted to permit construction of a new building on property at 1706 West Second Street, in a P-PK District, for a two-chair barber shop, subject to conditions im- posed by the planning C.~,,~ission and the Department of Public Works. Variance On motion of Counctlm~n Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the recommendation J. L. Sandkamp 7 ~ of the Pl~n~lng C~mmt ~sion was approved and the variance of J. L. Sandkamp granted to use the existing single-f~m!]y dwelling on front part of lot at 617 Orange Aven~ as a guest home to board and room a maximum of six ambulatory persons, and to use the existing apartment over the garage situated on rear part of the lot, as a rent-' with off-street space available for approximately eight cars. On motion of Counct~me- Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, the Purchasing Agent was granted permission to advertise for sale certain automotive equipment declared to be surplus property and to hold an auction at the Corporation Yard on March 22, 1958; the Purchasing Agent to act as Auctioneer and Clerk. The Mayor stated that the Santa Ann Junior Chember of C~,merce has returned to the City the sum of $~94.80 being the unused portion of the amount contributed by the City for the 1957 Santa Annual Frolic. It was moved by Councilman Hall, seconded by Hubbard and carried, that the check be accepted with thanks and a letter for- warded to the Junior Chamber of C~rce c~nding them for their conservatism. On motion of Counci!~en Hall, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the application of Carlos Gutierrez requesting a Special License to preach on the northwest corner of Adams and Halladay Streets, beginning Sunday, April 6, 1958, for the s, mm~r period every Sunday from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., and to use an amplifier or loud speaker controlled from an automobile, was referred to the Administrative Staff for report at the next meeting. It was moved by Councll~u Hubbard, seconded by Markel and carried, that action be continued until the next meeting on the request of A.E.Fowler & Sons, for a lease, for at least five years, to remove sand and dirt from City property in the Santa Ann River, south of Garden Grove Boulevard, and offering to pay ten cents per cubic yard. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the request of Request 2~mple Beth Sholom Temple Beth Sholcm was granted for permission to block off the street from Eighth and Bush to Eighth and Spurgeon Street, from 12:00 noon to 6:00 P.M. on March 9, Reso. No. 58-69 "Stop" sign on Tenth St. at Spurgeon St. for the purpose of conducting a Purlin Carnival. The Council having unanimously waived the rending of the Resolution, on motion of CO, mci~man Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the following Resolution entitle~ "Resolution No. 58-69 concerning parking limitations and curb markings in accor~-~ce therewith" replacing "Yield" sign with "Stop" sign to stop traffic on Tenth Street at Spurgeon Street, as rec~-,ended by the Department of Public Works, was considered and passed by the following vote: Petition for traffic signals 17th and Ross Sts. On motion of Coun¢~m-~. Gould, seconded by Hubbard and carried, the Mayor was autho ized to write a letter to W. J. Voit Rubber Corporation stating that the Council agrees to enter into an agreement with respect to the improvements on property bein purchased at Nuntzinger Avenue and Harbor Road, regarding paving, curb, gutter, sidewalks, and also as to the drainage charge of $300.00 per net acreage.
