of the Planning Cc~mission was approved and the variance of George L. Taney granted
to permit construction of a building at 1730 East 17th Street, to be used for a
restaurant and one retail-type store, with two ~' x 4' neon signs attached to the
building, with a 50-foot setback in place of the required 60-foot setback, with
off-street parking for 32 cars, in accordance with revised plot plan, subject to
conditions imposed by the Commission and the further condition that the applicant

Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommnending approval of
variance of Vernm W. and Ruth Hudson to permit construction of a two-family duplex
with two bedrooms each unit, at the rear of existing single-family residence on
front portion of the lot, on property situated at 1517 Durant Street, in an R-2
District, with a four-car detached garage with paved apron to the alley, to the
rear of proposed duplex, and a decrease in rear setback line from 10' to 9', in
order to maintain proper distances between buildings. It was moved by Councilman
Hubbard and seconded by Gould that the variance application be granted.

It was moved by Councilman Gould, seconded by Hall and carried, that the matter be
continued until April 21, 1958.
Mayor Heinly left the meeting at 8:25 P.M. Vice-Mayor Markel assumed the Chair.
Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommending approval of pro-
posed plan for the John Adams park site situated on the north side of Delhi Road
west of Raitt Street, as submitted by the Department of Recreation and Parks, and
on motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould and carried, the proposed plan
was approved.
Communication was read from the Planning Commission recommending a ninety-day
extension of time from March 16, 1958, on variance of Lyle W. Bryant, granted
September 16, 1957, for the construction of four triplex units on property at 2201-
2205 Kilson Drive and 2202-2206 Hickory Street, with the provision that the
setback line be 50 feet from center of the street. On motion of Councilm~n Hubbard
seconded by Gould and carried, the extension of time was granted subject to the
condition.
The Council having unanimously waived the reading of the Ordinance, on motinn of

"Ordinance No. NS-311 amending Article IX of the Santa Ana Municipal
Code creating changes in district boundaries, and amending Sheet

On motion of Counci3nnan Hubbard, seconded by Hall and carried, proper officials were
authorized to execute lease dated April 7, 1958, with Thomas Conzelamuu for property
on the north side of First Street and on the east side of King Street, on a month to
month basis, at a rental of $50.00 per month, beginning April 15, 1958, for the put-
pose of display, sale and storage of camp bodies to be mounted on motor vehicles,
trailers and other items for location in camp bodies and trailers.

The Clerk orally reported that the petition for Assessment District/on Sixth Street
west of Hawley Street was checked as to percentage and it was found that 62.88% of
the area signed the petition. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Gould
and carried, the Department of Public Works was instructed to prepare plans and
specifications to provide sidewalks, curbs, etc. in accordance with the petition
for an assessment district.
Communication was presented from the South Main Improvement Association requesting
status of individual petitions, dated November 8, 1957, from property owners on
South Main Street between Edinger and Delhi Road asking that a lighting assessment
district be formed for the installation of modern mercury-vapor light standards in
this particular area. On motion of Councilman Hall, seconded by Hubbard and carrie
the Manager was instructed to advise the Association of the status of the matter.

be granted to transfer the taxicab permit for the operation of the Black and Green

testing the removal of the traffic guard from the intersection of Bristol Street an~!
Washington Avenue, and on motion of Councilman Gould, seconded by Markel and carried
the communication was received aud filed. Mrs. Herrin requested information as
to whether any further action will be taken on the protest as it is very important
as many small children use the intersection and since the crossing guard was trans-
ferred to Washington Avenue and Baker Street, the situation is extremely hazardous.
Mrs. Herrin stated that some traffic control should be made before the "student
patrol program" is put into effect. It was moved by Councilman Hall and seconded
by Gould that a Resolution be adopted establishing a stop sign on Washington Avenue
at Baker Street.
