HomeMy WebLinkAbout77-131RESOLUTION NO. 77-131 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA COMMENDING ASSEMBLYMAN CHESTER B. "CHET" WP. AY AND HONORING HIM AS "LABOR MAN OF THE YEAR" WHEREAS, ASSEMBLYMAN CHESTER B. "CHET" WRAY is a full- time legislator representing all or a portion of the Orange County cities of Garden Grove, Westminster, Cypress, La Palma, Stanton, Midway City, Los Alamitos, Buena Park, Anaheim, Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley in the California legis- lature from the 71st Assembly District; and WHEREAS, he was born in Searcy, Arkansas; attended the University of Arkansas, University of New Mexico and U.C.L.A.; and is well prepared to tackle the many problems facing the working men and women and their families who comprise the majority of his district; and WHEREAS, his background of twenty-two years with General Motors Corporation; his years as a member of the United Auto Workers, including his past presidency of Local 261 in Southgate; and his leadership experience, all add up to a lifetime of, ~n CHET'S words, "working with, and addressing myself to, the very real concerns of working people"; and WHEREAS, CHET'S genuine concern for people is reflected in his many community activities, including three years as Director of the Orange County Community Action Program and as a United Crusade co-chairman; and WHEREAS, ASSEMBLYMAN CHET WRAY is a resident of Westminster, where he and his family have resided since 1959; and WHEREAS, as an expression of his personal commitment to bettering the community, ASSEMBLYMAN CHBT WP. AY is a founder of the Community Action Program (CAP), the Kennedy Action Corps, Orange County Town Hall and the Westminster Kiwanis Club; and WHEREAS, he is a charter member of Kiwanis, Town Hall, Westminster Toastmaster Club and the Traffic Club of America; and WHEREAS, ASSEMBLYMAN CHET WRAY's State Assembly assign- ments include membership on the Housing and the Resources, Land Use and Energy Committees; and WHEREAS, he is Vice Chairman of the State Assembly Transportation Committee, where his professional experience in the automotive and transportation fields is of great benefit to all of California; and WHEREAS, ASSEMBLYMAN CHET WRAY is known throughout Orange County for his unique ability to unit people of all races, colors, and creed for the common good; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of Santa Aha joins with the Orange County Labor Coalition in honoring ASSEMBLYMAN CHESTER B. "CHET" WRAY as "LABOR MAN of the YEAR", and expresses its congratulations and confidence that he will continue to serve this Community and State with distinction and dedication.
