RESOLUTION NO. 77-139
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA ANA COMMENDING POLICE OFFICER JOSE
VARGAS, AND PROCLAIMING DECEMBER 15, 1977 TO
BE "JOSE VARGAS DAY" IN THE CITY OF SANTA ANA
WHEREAS, this Council is aware of, and wishes to
acknowledge publicly, the outstanding success that Officer
Jose Vargas of the Police Department of this city has made
of his life, as has been most recently recognized and rewarded
by his selection, at the recent convention of the Inter-
national Association of Chiefs of Police, as the recipient
of one of that association's ten awards to the most outstand-
ing police officers in the nation, and
WHEREAS, this Council is of the opinion that Officer
Vargas' perseverance in the face of poverty and adversity
and the achievements that have marked his efforts should
and will serve as models for others who live in our city;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, AS FOLLOWS:
1. That this Council (and each of the members
thereof for himself, individually) does hereby cormmend Officer
Jose Vargas of the Police Department of this City for the
outstanding example that he has made of his life for others,
and congratulates him for his selection by said International
Association of Chiefs of Police, in convention assembled,
as one of the nation's ten most outstanding police officers.
2. That Thursday, December 15, 1977, is hereby
proclaimed to be "Jose Vargas Day" in the City of Santa Ana,
in recognition of his said accomplishments.
