RESOLUTION NO. 78-51
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA ANA URGING THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION TO APPROVE A VARIANCE FROM
STATE AIRPORT NOISE STANDARDS AT THE ORANGE
COUNTY AIRPORT
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of this
Council that a public hearing is to be held on May 22, 1978
by the State Department of Transportation regarding an ap-
plication for a variance from State Airport Noise Standards
at and on behalf of the Orange County Airport; and
WHEREAS, said Airport maintains a noise abatement
program; and
WHEREAS, in the most recent reporting period,
the Orange County Airport has served more than 2,158,000
passengers and dispatched and received 2,455 tons of air
cargo, thus making a substantial contribution to the econom-
ic well-being of the geographic area that is served by said
airport; and
WHEREAS, the need for adequate commercial air
services for said area continues to grow; and
WHEREAS, present restrictions on air operations
hamper the ability of carriers to provide adequate commer-
cial air service to the more than 1.7 million people in
Orange County; and
WHEREAS, this Council recognizes that commercial
air operations represent an irritant to some persons in
the vicinity of the Airport, but are of vital importance
to the great majority of the residents of Orange County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT P. ESOLVED by the City Coun-
cil of the City of Santa Ana:
That this Council does hereby urge the State
Department of Transportation to grant said variance, and
to provide suitable flexibility so that the carriers using
Orange County Airport can provide for the air transportation
needs of the citizens of Santa Aha, and of Orange County
as a whole.
