Santa Aha City Hall
December 29, 1958.
7:30 P.M.
This being the date and hour fixed by the Council in Resolution No. 58-296 for the
filing of written protests against the election in ~hat certain territory designated
"West Santa Ana Annex", the Mayor c~11ed upon any person present, who desired to file
a protest against an election in said territory to determine whether or not the said
territory should be annexed to the City of Santa Aha, to come forward and present
such protest. The protest must state in general terms the name of the owner of the
property affected by these proceedings, and the location and area of the property.
The Mayor asked the Clerk if she had received any protests and she stated that
petitions and letters containing approximately 86 signatures of owners of privately
owned properties protesting the annexation were filed; that the area has a total
assessed valuation of $1,969~298.00, excluding public land, and the assessed value
of the land represented by the protestants was found to be $199,570.00, and from
these figures it was determined that 10.2~ of the property owners have protested
agaimst the annexation. Co~mmication'was read from Calvin P. Schmidt, Attorney
for Pro-County Association, ~requesting an additional thirty day extension of time
from the date of the protest hearing on the '"~est Santa Ana ~h~nex", in order to con-
tact all of the people in the area and to better inform them on the matters pertain-
ing to the annexation, and on motion of Councilman Gould, seconded by Hall and car-
ried, the con~unication was received and filed. No more protests having been filed,
the Mayor asked whether there was any person present, who owns land within said
territory, who wished to speak in favor of said annexation. The Mayor asked whether
there was any person present, who owns land within said territory, who wished to
speak against said annexation. It appears to be clearly apparent that protests
have not been made by the owners of one-half of the value of said territory, it was '
moved by Councilman Hubbard and seconded by H$11, that in accordance with Government
Code Section 35,120, the period for filing protests against said election be extend-i
for the filing of such protests herein. Mark Walker, Secretary-Treasurer, Pro-
