A RESOLUTION OF THE SANTA ANA CITY COUNCIL
TO SUPPORT ASSEMBLY BILL 1721 AND TO URGE
ALL CITIES OF THE COUNTY OF ORANGE TO
SUPPORT THIS LEGISLATION
WHEREAS, State Assemblyman Paul Bannai has introduced AB
1721 which amends Section 20496 of the Government Code relating to
public employees retirement; and
WHEREAS, the existing Public Employees Retirement Law
authorizes contracting agencies to make optional benefits applicable
to their employees on a classification basis; and
WHEREAS, this legislation would, if passed, authorize
contracting agencies to make such benefits applicable on the basis
of employee organization representation and time of employment; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City of Santa Ana to
retain flexibility in determining the level of employee benefits
provided new hires;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Santa Ana:
1. That it does support and strongly urge all cities of
the County of Orange to support AB 1721.
2. That the City Clerk is hereby directed to send copies
of this resolution to all State Legislators representing Santa Ana
and all other portions of Orange County and to each Orange County
City.
