A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA
AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION TO SUBMIT A GRANT
APPLICATION TO THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
FOR FUNDING OF TSM IMPROVEMENTS ON 17TH STREET AND ON GRAND
AVENUE AT THEIR RESPECTIVE INTERSECTIONS WITH THE SANTA ANA
FREEWAY; AND, TO FUND FIELD MODIFICATIONS AT 30 EXISTING
TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATIONS FOR INTEGRATION INTO THE SANTA
ANA COMPUTERIZED TRAFFIC SIGNAL CONTROL SYSTEM
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana has identified
Arterial Congestion Relief on 17th Street and on Grand Avenue, and has emphasized
implementation of the Santa Ana Computerized Traffic Signal Control System as
high priority transportation projects; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation has recently solicited
proposals for Transportation System Management (TSM) approaches to more
efficient use of existing transportation system facilities; and
WHEREAS, the application of TSM techniques to congestion relief
on 17th Street and on Grand Avenue and the extension of coordinated operation
on arterials provided by the Santa Ana Computerized Traffic Signal Control
System specifically satisfy the stated objectives of the Department of Trans-
portation program; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation has funds for implementa-
tion of such programs.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA RESOLVES
that the Director of Transportation is authorized and directed to submit a
grant proposal to the United State~J Department of Transportation for funding
of TSM improvements on 17th Street and on Grand Avenue at their respective
intersections with the Santa Ana Freeway; and, to fund field modifications
at 30 existing traffic signal installations for integration into the Santa
Aha Computerized Traffic Signal Control System.
