RESOLUTION NO. 81- 82
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA SUPPORTING NUCLEAR AND
OTHER ENERGY SOURCES
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana is vitally inter-
ested in the needs of the businessmen of Southern California
and the economic, environmental and social well-being of
Orange County; and
WHEREAS, adequate future energy supplies for
Southern California and diminished dependence on unpredictable
supplies of foreign controlled oil will require increasing
dependence on multiple sources such as solar, geothermal,
wind, coal and nuclear energy resources; and
WHEREAS, of the already developed sources of bulk
energy, only nuclear energy has the capability of being
economically and reliably utilized to a far greater extent
than other energy sources during the current decade and
therefore, nuclear energy is a most important element to
insure the near future energy supplies of Southern California;
and
WHEREAS, regulatory delays in the siting and
licensing of critical electrical generating facilities are
costly to businessmen and all other consumers, threaten a
healthy and productive economy, and necessitate a greater
dependence upon foreign oil supplies.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City
Council of the City of Santa Ana supports:
The licensing of Units 2 and 3 of the San
Onofre Nuclear Generating Station;
The continued development of other alternate
energy sources such as solar, geothermal,
wind and coal; and
The continued commitment to energy conser-
vation and proper energy management to
maximize utilization of domestic energy
sources and reduce waste.
