Hall Stanley C. Gould,' Jr., Bob Brewer Discussion with officials ElectroData Division of Burroughs Corporation Santa ^na City Hall March 23, 1961 11:30 The Mayor announced the intent of this meeting with Joseph P. Rice, General Manage: and H. Randall Stokes, ^ttorney~ ElectroData Division of Burroughs Corporatic~, Pasadena~ was to ascertain the plans and program of said C~mpany with reference to the proposed industrial construction on their property located at the inter- section southwest of Bristol Street and Warner Avenue (DeLhi Road)~ which was rezoned in 1957 from the R-1 to the M-1 District. CounciLmen Stanley C. Gould, Jr and Bob Brewer arrived at the meeting at ll:~5 ~.M. Attorney H. Randall Stokes stated it was the intention of ElectroData to construct on this property~ but due to the 1958-59 recession and the delayed development of the B-5000 Computer, they had no idea as to when this would be done. Councilman Heinly stated Council de- temined, at the time of the rezoning, and perhaps erroneously, that it wSuldbeto the best interest of the City to have this particular industry in that area~ and would st~ll be in favor of the proposed constrt~ction, but as this is a prime resi- dential section and there is a continuing intention but construction has not developed, the area should be returned to the R-1 Zone, until such time as Electro. Data is ready to proceed with their plans. Councilman Gould inquired about the us~ of a portion of the property sold to C. J. Segerstrom & Sons, and stated his pre- ference to maintain the area as residential. Attorney H. Randall Stokes stated that immediately upon the acquisition of the property, an engineering study had been made and a report submitted including the type of building that should be placed on the property. Mr. Rice stated that highly restrictive deed restrictions 166 were placed on the property sold to C. J. Segerstrcm & Sons, for the best possible use of the land, and their Company had cooperated with the City in removing the pump and well at Delhi Road. Further~ the activities of the Burroughs Corporation are entirely consistent with whatever was said at the time they were first inter- ested in the property. The program of the ElectroData Division has been accelera- ted because of the anticipated large-seale production of said Computer, but con- struction of the proposed building is not expected for at least a year, due to the large amount of tooling necessary and the special characteristics of the pro- posed building, which will require a sizable capital investment. A discussion en- sued between Mr. Rice, Mayor Hall and Councilman Heinly reference a future date of construction or other intentions of the ElectroData Division of Burroughs Corpo~ ation, and it was suggested that the matter be deferred until such time as the Planning Department can submit their rec~l~endations and report reference to the rezoning and/or l~ture use of the ElectroData property.
