A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA ANA URGING THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS TO DELETE THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS
A SITE FOR A PROPOSED NEW POST -TRIAL JAIL FACILITY
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana recognizes
its responsibility to continue to support the Orange County Superior
Court in the City of Santa Ana; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana recognizes
its responsibility in not opposing the maintenance or expansion of the
existing jail site in the City of Santa Ana for the purpose of pre-trial
detention; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana is opposed
to the expansion of the existing jail facility in the City of Santa Ana
as a post -trial detention facility; and
WHEREAS the previous studies of the County have indicated the
technical advantages of the Musick site over the downtown Santa Ana site
for a post -trial security facility, and such information must be consid-
ered in the Envirormental Review process.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA ANA:
1. That the Honorable Board of Supervisors of the County of
Orange eliminate the site behind the present main jail in the city of
Santa Ana as a potential site for a new post -trial jail facility.
2. That the Honorable Board of Supervisors of the County of
Orange give no further consideration to the site behind the present main
jail in the City of Santa Ana as a potential site for a new post -trial
jail facility.
3. That the Honorable Board of Supervisors of the County of
Orange recognize the serious economic and social impact to the City of
Santa Ana of creating a new post -trial jail facility behind the present
main jail.
4. That the City of Santa Ana, if the site within our city
is not eliminated, will monitor the Environmental Review process to
ensure that the Musick facility is addressed as an alternative and
hereby instructs the City Manager and the City Attorney to monitor that
process and recommend to the City Council appropriate legal actions that
may be initiated by the City of Santa Ana.
5. That the Clerk of the Council deliver a copy of this
Resolution to the Honorable Board of Supervisors of the County of
Orange.
