RESOLUTION NO. 83-54
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA PROVIDING FOR NOMINATIONS
TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE BOWERS
MUSEUM AND SETTING FORTH THE POWERS AND
DUTIES OF SAID BOARD
WHEREAS, by Ordinance No. NS -1680, the City
Council of the City of Santa Ana established the Board of
Trustees of the Bowers Museum, consisting of nine (9) voting
members and two (2) non-voting ex officio members; and
WHEREAS, the City Council desires to establish
procedures for nominations to membership on the Board of
Trustees of the Bowers Museum; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-551 of the Santa
Ana Municipal Code, the City Council desires to set forth
the powers and duties of the Board of Trustees of the Bowers
Museum.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA:
1. That the City Council shall appoint, for the first
term of office, three (3) members of the Board of Trustees
of Bowers Museum from the Board as it existed prior to the
date of adoption of Ordinance NS -1680.
2. That appointments by the City Council for
membership of four (4) members shall be from nominations
received from the Executive Board of the Bowers Museum
Foundation.
3. That appointment by the City Council for
membership of two (2) members shall be business
representatives selected from one (1) nomination made by the
City Manager, and one (1) nomination made by the Executive
Board of the Bowers Museum Foundation.
4. That the Mayor, or his or her designated
representative, shall be appointed as an ex officio, non-
voting member of the Board of Trustees.
5. That the City Manager, or his or her designated
representative, shall be appointed as an ex officio, non-
voting member of the Board of Trustees.

6. That the Board of Trustees of the Bowers Museum
shall have the following duties:
(a) It shall provide direction to the Director of
the Bowers Museum in formulating policies and programs for
the Museum.
(b) By its own motion, make such studies and
recommendations as it may deem necessary for the formulation
of Museum policies, or to determine the wisdom and efficacy
of the policies, plans and procedures of the Bowers Museum
and reports its findings and recommendations to the City
Council, City Manager, or Museum Director, or to any or all
such authorities as it may see fit.
(c) It shall define and implement a program to
provide for the operation of Bowers Museum by a nonprofit
public benefit corporation under an agreement with the City,
which program should be submitted to the City Council as
soon as possible but not later than one year from the date
of the adoption of this Resolution.
