RESOLUTION NO. 83-56
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA RECOGNIZING THE SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA TRANSPORTATION ACTION COMMITTEE'S
EFFORTS TO SOLVE TRANSPORTATION PROBLEMS IN
THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA REGION
WHEREAS, the Southern California Transportation
Action Committee, a non-profit organization dedicated to
improving transportation in the six county Southern
California area, is comprised of members and associates
which include air, water, rail and highway users, chambers
of commerce, organized labor groups, environmental and civic
groups, and local government agencies' individuals; and
WHEREAS, the Southern California Transportation
Action Committee's primary goal is to build public awareness
of and support for the important transportation needs of
this region; and
WHEREAS, the Southern California Transportation
Action Committee's accomplishments and activities have
included:
1. Development and promoting the Freeway Transit
(FET) concept to regional transportation decision makers and
community leaders;
2. Taking strong public stands supporting the
completion of important highway projects including building
the Century Freeway, widening the Ventura Freeway, and
completing the Long Beach Freeway;
3. Organizing quarterly transportation issues forums;
4. Reporting in Update, Southern California
Transportation Action Committee's monthly newsletter, on
significant transportation issues; and
WHEREAS, the Southern California Transportation
Action Committee's 1983 goals include:
1. Accelerate completion of priority highway
projects;
2. Build public support for "bus -on -freeway" transit;

3. Support adequate transportation funding;
4. Strengthen County Transportation Commissions' role
in transportation decision making;
5. Enhance harbor access;
6. Improve regional airports' operations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, that the City Council recognizes
the Southern California Transportation Action Committee's
contributions of the past decade and supportstheir efforts
on behalf of transportation in the Southern California
region.
FURTHERMORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA encourages SCTAC to further the
cause of multi -modal transportation planning with its
important efforts and influence throughout the region.
