A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA
AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF TRANSPORTATION SERVICES TO
SUBMIT A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION
TO FUND CONSTRUCTION OF GRADE SEPARATION IMPROVEMENTS AT
FIRST STREET AND THE SANTA FE RAILROAD TRACKS
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Santa Ana has identified
improvements to the Santa Ana Amtrak passenger facility as a top transpor-
tation priority, and
WHEREAS, First Street is a major east/west street through the City
and provides access to the Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) located near the proposed
project; and
WHEREAS, the existing grade separation was constructed at a time
when the population of Santa Ana and Orange County was much less; and
WHEREAS, the City has widened First Street to provide six travel
lanes on both sides of this project; and
WHEREAS, the California Public Utilities Commission annually adopts
a Grade Crossing Improvement Priority List for projects such as this; and
WHEREAS, the California Public Utilities Commission provides grant
funds to construct crossing improvements from this priority list,
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA RESOLVES
that the Director of Transportation Services is authorized and directed to
submit a grant application to the California Public Utilities Commission for
grant funding of grade separation projects at First Street, and the Santa Fe
Railroad Tracks.
