HomeMy WebLinkAbout84-020RESOLUTION NO. 84-20 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA OPPOSING AMTRAK'S PROPOSED INTRODUCTION OF THE METROLINER CONCEPT, AN EXPRESS TRAIN SERVICE FOR THE LOS ANGELES-SAN DIEGO CORRIDOR Orange public WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana has traditionally been considered County's center for passenger transportation activity by the general as well as by Amtrak; and dollar and WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana is presently constructing a 16 million multi-modal Regional Transportation Center headquarters for Amtrak; WHEREAS, Amtrak's proposed metroliner service concept would result in a reduction of two stops daily to the City of Santa Ana; and WHEREAS, Santa Ana residents as well as other Orange County residents would be substantially impacted by the reduction of service as the County continues to grow and as residents increase their travel to the City to transact their business affairs; and WHEREAS, the increased track improvements by the collective efforts of the Cities of Fullerton, San Juan Capistrano, Oceanside and Santa Ana will reduce travel time thereby accomplishing the same end result as the imple- mentation of the metroliner service concept. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA that the City Council hereby opposes Amtrak's proposed introduction of the metroliner service concept, an express train service for the Los Angeles- San Diego Corridor which discontinues two stops daily to the detriment of the City of Santa Ana.
