A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO APPLY FOR GRANT FUNDS UNDER
THE HUD HOUSING DEVELOPMENT GRANT PROGRAM
WHEREAS, Section 17 was added to the U.S. Housing
Act of 1937 by Section 301 of the Housing and Urban-Rural
Recovery Act of 1983 (P.L. 98-181) which was enacted by
Congress on November 30, 1983; and
WHEREAS, Section 17 authorizes a Housing Development
Grant (HoDAG) Program to support and encourage the construction
or substantial rehabilitation of residential rental, cooperative
or mutual housing in which at least 20 percent of the units will
be occupied by lower income families; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana is one of only two cities
in Orange County to be certified by the U.S. Department of Housing
and Urban Development (HUD) to be a designated eligible area,
allowing the City to submit applications for competition for HoDAG
grant funds;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of
the City of Santa Ana that the City Manager of the City of Santa
Ana is hereby authorized to make all steps and to sign all docu-
ments and instruments necessary to apply for such HoDAG funds and
to implement and carry out the program on behalf of the City.
