HomeMy WebLinkAbout86-032A RESOI33~IC~ OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING THE SUPPORT OF S~qATE BTT.T, 1133 BY S~I~ATOR MAR/AN B~ WI~EEAS, the youth of this City and the n~tion are our future; WHEREAS, the role of education in preparing today's children for tcmo[zuw's challenges as adults is of the utmos% importance; and WHEREAS, there is an urgen% and critical need for new school facili%ies in the Ci%y of Santa Ana; and Wt~REAS, the Santa Ana Unified School District is growing at a rate of at least 1,000 students per year, and is projected %o continue well in%o the 1990's; and WHEREAS, there is already a shortage of 1,300 permanent seats for students, and this shortage is expected %o grow %o 6,140 by the 1990-91 school year; and W~REAS, on a state-wide b~sis, it is estimated ~hat the need for funds over the next five %o ten years for new school cc~structic~ and ~%ruction of existing facilities will probably exceed ~ billion; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 1133 introduced by Sena%or Marian Bergeson would authorize an $800 million School Finance Bc~d issue %o be put on the W/~EAS, the $800 million infusion of funds in%o the existing State School Construction/Reconstruction Pro~ns will greatly assist the Santa Aha School District in acquiring badly needed funds. RESOLUTION NO. 86- 32 Page Two NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA support Senaee Bill 1133 by Senatc~ Bergescn and direct staff to notify the appropriate members of the Skate Legislature of the City's position. of April, 1986.
