RESOLUTION NO. 86-~8
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA ANA ESTABLISHING A JOINT STAFF
COMMITTEE WITH THE GARDEN GROVE UNIFIED SCHOOL
DISTRICT.
WHEREAS, the Garden Grove Unified School District ("GGUSD")
is responsible for operating schools within a portion of the
jurisdictional boundaries of the City of Santa Ana ("City");
and
WHEREAS, for planning purposes, GGUSD needs to be aware of
City land use planning and development authorizations in order
to better plan allocation of GGUSD resources; and
WHEREAS, City recognizes that quality education is a major
element of urban life and preservation of neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, both GGUSD and City desire that a committee be
established to periodically meet and confer to exchange
information and to formulate strategies to achieve mutual goals;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA:
1. The City Manager is hereby directed to appoint
appropriate personnel to a committee composed of City and GGUSD
staff.
2. The committee shall provide communication regarding
housing developments and other developments in the City of
Santa Ana that may affect GGUSD's allocation of resources.
3. The committee shall provide for mutual studies of
student population within the congruent boundaries of GGUSD and
the City, and determine impacts on GGUSD of City land use
decisions and project approvals.
4. The committee shall review present and potential
resources which may be allocable to facilities serving the
congruent boundaries mentioned above.
5. The committee shall determine appropriate recommendations
to the governing body of the City and GGUSD regarding possible
alternatives for short-term and long-term impacts of new
development, whether public or private, on GGUSD resources, and

methods of alleviating any such identified impacts.
6. The committee shall meet at a time and place as
mutually established by the City Manager and the Superintendent
of GGUSD.
