A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA ANA SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS
OF THE ORANGE COObri~ TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION
ON THE EEVELOPMENT OF IMPLEMENTATION PLANS FOR
COMMUTER RAIL PASSENGER SERVICE IN ORANGE COUNTY.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Santa Ana has adopted a Gen-
eral Plan including a Regional Transit component of the Circulation El~nent;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana's General Plan Circulation Element con-
tains, as one of the primary goals, the develolmnent of a Balanced Transporta-
tion System; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Ana has taken definitive steps to impl~nent
this component of the City's of General Plan through the planning and develop-
ment of the Regional Transportation Center; and
WHEREAS, the Regional Transportation Center, in conjunction with other
regional transportation facilities (planned and existing), provides the oppor-
tunity to evaluate the introduction of Cc~muter Rail Passenger Service as a
viable alternative to the private autcraobile; and
W~qEREAS, the concurrent evaluation of this component of regional public
transportation with other regional studies and planning efforts will result in
cost savings to the general public and an increased potential for future
imple~nentation; and
WHEREAS, the early introduction of this service could significantly
mitigate the traffic implications of the urgently needed improvements to the
I-5 Freeway widening project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of San-
ta Ana that the Orange County Transportation C~,mLission is hereby urged to
initiate at the earliest possible date, the strategic planning necessary to
implement C~,~,uter Rail Passenger Service in the Los Angeles to San Diego cor-
ridor.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Santa Ana reaffirms its sup-
port for and cum~%itment to the implementation of c~,m~ter rail passenger ser-
vice in Orange County.
