SUPPORTING LEGISLATION WHICH SPECIFIES NEW
FUNDING FOR JAIL CONSTRUCTION AT GYPSUM CANYON
WHEREAS, The Orange County Board of Supervisors is pursuing
state legislation that would authorize them to place before the

designate the increased revenues for any specific jail site in
the county,
WHEREAS, The Board of Supervisors has already spent
millions of dollars and a significant amount of time on
selecting the Coal Gypsum Canyon site as the most practical and
feasible location for a new jail facility in the county,
WHEREAS, The City of Santa Ana already has a fair-share
burden of the inmate population in the county, and it would be
inappropriate to tolerate any new or expanded jail facilities
within City boundaries,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Santa Ana City
Council support the Coal Gypsum Canyon site as the recipient
any new jail construction revenue generated from a 1/2 cent
sales tax increase in Orange County.
of
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT the City Council will
