A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA SUPPORTING
ENFORCEMENT OF ALL LAWS AND REGULATIONS
AIMED AT THE CONTROL OF CRIMINAL GANG ACTIVITY.
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Aha will not tolerate the
proliferation of criminal street gangs and the resulting blight
on the community; and
WHEREAS, neighborhoods and schools in our city have the
right to be free from the fear and influence of criminal street
gangs; and
WHEREAS, criminal street gangs present a poor example
and a clear danger to the youth of our community; and
WHEREAS, criminal gang activity adds significantly to
the crime rate and narcotic use in our city; and
WHEREAS, the State Legislature has passed the Street
Terrorism Act which is a law directly aimed at control of
criminal street gang activity;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS FOLLOWS:
1. Every department in the city structure shall exercise
whatever power is available to them to control gang activity and
discourage youth involvement in criminal street gangs.
2. The Police Department, in cooperation with the City
Attorney's Office, shall vigorously enforce all laws, ordinances,
and regulations that are applicable to gang activity, and shall
use all means at their disposal to accomplish this task.
3. The Police Department, in cooperation with the Orange
County District Attorney's Office, shall make every effort to
enforce and prosecute violations of the Street Terrorism
Enforcement Act as it applies to criminal street gangs.

4. The Mayor, on behalf of the City Council, will make a
direct appeal to other elements of the Criminal Justice System to
Join us in our efforts. This will include the courts, District
Attorney's Office, Probation, and referral agencies. The Mayor
will request that they aggressively enforce statutes, divert our
youth from gang affiliation, and prosecute gang members
responsible for crimes to the full extent of the law.
