A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SANTA ANA
AUTHOR/ZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO EXECUTE A GRANT
AWARD AGREEMENT WITH THE OFFICE OF COMMUNITY
POLICING SERVICES
WHEREAS, the Police Department has been awarded a One Million Dollar ($I,000,000)
Community Oriented Policing Demonstration Grant from the Office of Community Oriented Police
Services ("COPS"); and
WHEREAS, through this grant award, COPS has recognized the City's Police Depamnent as a
national model for community oriented policing programs; and
WHEREAS, the grant award will fund one Sergeant and six additional Police officers for the
length of the grant period; and
WHEREAS, the grant designates the City as a training site for other police departments interested
in implementing or refining their community policing efforts; and
Yv'HEREAS, critical to the function of the Community Oriented Policing Demonstration Center is
a secure facility for operations, which will be located in the Westend District of the City and provide the
COP Task Force with a facility to accommodate visits by outside agencies interested in learning about the
City's Community Oriented Policing program; and
WHEREAS, by accepting this grant and hosting a demonstration center, the City will continue to
be recognized nationally as internationally as an innovator and leader in community policing methods;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA, AS FOLLOWS:
1. The Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed to execute the grant award agreement
with the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services for One Million Dollars ($1,000,000).
2. The City Attorney is directed to prepare and the Mayor and Clerk of the Council are
authorized to execute an agreement with the REEM Group, a property management company, to lease
office space for a term of one year in an amount not to exceed $18,000.00.
