HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002-003 - Major Development AreasRESOLUTION NO. 2002-003 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING AN AMENDMENT'TO THE LAND USE ELEMENT OF THE CITY'S GENERAL PLAN CREATING TVVO NEW "MAJOR DEVELOPMENT AREAS" ALONG THE SR-55 FREEWAY BK: 1/8/02 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. The City Council hereby finds, determines and declares as follows: The Califomia Govemment Code requires every city to adopt a General Plan. The Plan consists of several elements, one of which must be a Land Use Element. The City's Land Use Element currently identifies seven (7) areas of the City as "Major Development Areas." They are "Main Place," "Museum District,' "Downtown," "South Coast Metro," "MacArthur Place, Hutton Center," 'q'ustin Avenue Corridor," and "East First Street Corridor." The first five (5) of these Major Development Areas are also designated by the Land Use Element as "District Centers." The Land Use Element describes the characteristics of a Major Development Area. The City Council is desirous of creating two (2) new Major Development Areas, to b.e known as "Edinger/55 Freeway" and "Dyer/55 Freeway." D Following a duly noticed public hearing, on December 10, 2001 the City Planning Commission recommended that the City Council amend the Land Use Element to incorporate these two (2) new Major Development Areas. With the .instant amendment, the elements of the City's General Plan continue to comprise an integrated, internally consistent and compatible statement~of policies. All statements and findings contained in the Request For Council Action and the record on this matter are incorporated herein by this reference as though fully set forth. Section 2. as follows: The Land Use Element of the City's General Plan is hereby amended Resolution No. 2002-003 Page 1 of 4 Ao The last four sentences of page A-21 of the Land .Use Element is amended to read as follows (strikeout of deleted language And highlighting of new language shown for tracking purposes only): 'q'he East First Street/l'ustin Avenue corridor, Edinger/55 Freeway and Dyer/55 Freeway are designated as i$ 3 major development areas even though it == they are not a designated District Centers. The City's District Centers and major development areas are shown as Exhibit A-5." Exhibit A-5 on page A-22 of the Land Use Element is amended to show all seven (7) Major Development Areas as set forth in Exhibit 1 to this resolution. ~ Section 3.
