A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA ANA AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF POLICE AND
THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO EXECUTE A GRANT
AWARD AGREEMENT FOR THE 2002 LOCAL LAW
ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT FROM THE UNITED
STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS
FOLLOWS:
.Section 1. The City Council of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines and
declares as follows:
The Santa Ana Police Department has been selected to receive a grant
from the United States Department of Justice, in the amount of
$399,789.00.
The Federal Omnibus Appropriations Act provides funding for the
implementation of the Local Law Enforcement Grants Program. These
funds are allocated to the local law enforcement agencies based on
population and crime rates.
This is the seventh year the Police Department has received funding from
the U.S. Department of Justice through this grant program. In accordance
with the Department of Justice grant requirements, the Police Department
established an Advisory Board to solicit non-binding recommendations
regarding the proposed use of funds.
Based on the Advisory Board recommendations, staff is proposing the
grant funding be used to support overtime programs in the Department's
crime reduction efforts and the improvement of public safety throughout
the community.
The City of Santa Ana has agreed per the grant requirements to allocate
matching funds of $44,421.00.
Section 2. The City Council authorizes the Chief of Police and the Police
Department to execute the 2002 Local Law Enforcement Grant Agreement in the
amount of $399,789.00 with matching funds in the amount of $44,421.00.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by
the City Council, and the Clerk of the Council shall attest to and certify the vote adopting
this Resolution.
