HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-05-1965 Special MeetingMINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED REGULAR ~TING OF APRIL 6, 1965 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA April 13, 1965 The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. Roll call was answered by Councilmen Royal E. Hubbard, Harry H. Harvey, James Gilmore, Henry H. Schlueter and Mayor A. Allen Hall. CLERK' S REPORT Council heard the Clerk's report that the Order of Adjournment had been posted as required by law, and that a Certificate of Posting was on file in the office of the Clerk. CANVASS OF VOTES held April 6, 1965. As a result of the The Mayor called for the canvassing of the election returns for the General Municipal Election and the Special Municipal Election canvass the Mayor announced that the following had been elected to the Council: Tom McMichael, 517 E. Buffalo Wade Herrin, 1505 N. Baker Davis Burk, 1902 Meriday Lane J. Ogden Markel, 181k S. Parton Walter Brooks, 2002 W. 15th Ward I Ward III Ward V Ward VI Ward VII The Mayor then announced that the incumbents, Conrad Schultz, C. R. Sturgis, and Herbert Stroschein, had been re-elected to the Board of the Santa Ana Unified School District. RESOLUTION 65-61 STATING AND DECLARING THERESULT OF THE CANVASS OF ELECTION RETURNS OF THE GENEBALMUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, ON APRIL 6TH, 1965 was read by title. It was moved by Council- man Hubbard, seconded by CounciLman Schlueter, that further reading be waived and Resolution 65-61 be adopted. On roll call vote: AYES, COUNCILMEN: NOES, COUNCILMEN: ABSEAWf, COUNCILMEN: Hubbard, Harvey, Gilmore, Schlueter, Hall None None RESOLUTION 65-65 OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA, DECLARING THE RESULT OF THE CANVASS OF ELECTION ~S ON THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD APRIL 6, 1965 was read by title. It was moved by Councilm-n Hubbard, seconded by Coanc~lman Schlueter, that further reading be waived and Resolution 65-65 be adopted. On roll call vote: AYES, COUNCILMEN: NOES, COUNCILMEN: ABSENT, COUNCILMEN: Hubbard, Harvey, Gilmore, Schlueter, Hall None None Janice Boer, 911 N. Lowell, protested that two campaign statements filed by winning candidates were incorrect, and asked for a City Attorney ruling. The attorney replied the correctness or incorrectness would be up to the Courts, that the only requirement here is that it be filed. CITY COUNCIL - 219 - April 13, 1965 OATH OF OFFICE The Clerk administered the Oath of Office to the five newly elected CounciLmen, and issued them Certificates of Election. On motion of Councilman Hubbard, seconded by Councilman Schlueter and carried, the Council adjourned sine die at 10:~5 p.m. REORGANIZATION OF COUNCIL At 10:46 p.m. the Council, called to order by the Clerk, reconvened with the following Councilmen present: Councilmen James GiLmore, Harry H. Harvey, Walter L. Brooks, Davis Burk, Wade Herrin, J. Ogden Markel~ and Tcm McMichael. It was moved by Councilman Gilmore, seconded by Councilman Brooks that Harry H. Harvey be n~ninated for Mayor. On motion of Councilman Gilmore, seconded by Councilman Brooks, nominations were closed and the secretary was instructed to cast a unanimous ballot for Harry H. Harvey as Mayor. On motion of Councilman Herrin, seconded by Councilm~n Burk, James Gilmore was nmminated for Vice Mayor. On motion of Councilman McMichael, seconded by Councilman Harvey, nominations were closed and the secretary was instructed to cast a unanimous ballot for James Gilmore as Vice Mayor. KEYS TO CITY Mayor Harvey presented to retiring Mayor Hall a Key to the City and expressed, on behalf of the Council and the City, appreciation for his eight years on the Council and six years as Mayor. Vice Mayor Gilmore presented to retiring Vice Mayor Hubbard, and retiring Councilm-n Schlueter Keys to the City, expressing the appreciation of the Council and citizens of Santa Aha for their devoted service. ~'I'aODUCTIONS The new Councilmen introduced their families, seated in the audience. The City Manager introduced officials and pers~Luel of the City who will be working with Council.
