COMMENTS PUBLIC COMMENTS Dave Lopez, Maria Sandoval and Erma Garcia spoke in opposition to the Little Saigon Business District Monument Michael Macres, and Eisa Gomez addressed Council in opposition to continuation of the Downtown Santa Ana Business Improvement District. Wade Little and Klm Gerda expressed concem that the French Park traffic barriers have not been removed. Pat McGuigan raised concerns relative to the proposed fundamental high school at Centennial Park and the fact that only residents of the Santa Aha Unified School District can attend the new school. Robert Henson invited the Council and residents to a 9-11 tribute honoring Santa Ana Police Officers and Firefighters on Thursday, September 11, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in front of the Santa Ana Police Headquarters at the flagpoles. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS Councilmember Garcia · Congratulated Centennial Heritage Museum and Santa Ana Unified School District for coming to an agreement; noted that he attended the agreement signing ceremony · Noted that Saturday, September 6, 2003 was the monthly Artists Village Open House and that this Saturday there would be a pictorial history display featuring Orange County and specifically, Santa Ana · Announced that on September 18, 2003, there will an Adams Street storm drain groundbreaking · Asked the City Council to adjourn in memory of Bonnie Bimh, who was an Economic Development Specialist for the City of Santa Ana Councilmember Solorio · Announced that the annual Zoofari event at the Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park was very successful and enjoyable · Noted that on August 30, 2003 a Resoume Fair was held at Madison Park · Announced that the Fiestas de lasAmericas would be held this year on September 12, 13 and 14, 2003 downtown and that there will be a parade on Sunday, September 14, 2003 · Reported that there has been progress in dealing with the various code violations occurring on Harbor Boulevard; to date there have been over 70 violations cited to improve the corridor CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 298 SEPTEMBER 2, 2003 COMMENTS Noted that the fundamental high school being developed at Centennial Park has been planned for a long time and the City is in dire need of new schools; he also noted that there will be a high school built at the Armstrong Ranch project, and that pursuant to joint use agreements, citywide events can be held at these sites Councilmember Bist · Expressed concern that during the recent period when the City Library was closed due to repairs made in the building, the voice messages for the Library's phones were not changed, and some members of the public were not aware that the Library was closed · Announced that there would be a book fair sponsored by the Friends of the Library held by the fountain in the City Hall courtyard on September 3-5, 2003 · Reminded residents that the Morrison Park Concert will be held on September 20, 2003 · Stated that some of the comments from the public relative to the Downtown Santa Ana Business Improvement District (DSABA) are misleading since t he Council i s not responsible for t he actions o f DSABA Councilmember Alvarez · Encouraged all residents to participate in the "Race for the Cure" on September 28, 2003 · Encouraged residents to join local neighborhood watch programs and emphasized the need to know that your neighborhood is safe · Reminded residents that now that school is in session, everyone needs to be more cautious when driving Mayor Pre Tem Franklin · Attended a Morrison Park Neighborhood meeting and heard presentations from the Principal at Santiago School and the PTA president; also speaking was the new owner of the Sizzler Restaurant on Seventeenth Street who spoke about the purchase of the franchise and the plans for the restaurant. · Received complaints from residents that their cable television reception on Channel 13 was either fuzzy or non-existent; he noted that the problem was located on Mt.
