90.A. PUBLIC COMMENTS
Dave Lopez addressed Council relative to concerns about the construction
and installation of a Little Saigon Business District monument sign.
Kim Gerda addressed the Council relative to concerns about the French
Park traffic barriers and the danger they pose to the students at Davis
Elementary School.
Andrea Cozby addressed the Council and expressed concerns related to
the proposed route of the Centerline project and potential impacts on the
Washington Square Neighborhood.

Councilmember Garcia
• Thanked the Police Department, and the Riverview West
Association and all those involved in the reopening of the Westend
Police substation on November 1, 2003
• Announced that the U.S. Tennis Association is sponsoring
demonstrations on Friday, November 7, 2003 at 5:30 p.m. at
Sandpointe Park and on Sunday, November 9, 2003 at Portola Park
at 2:00 p.m.
Councilmember Solorio
• Thanked the Police Department and everyone involved with the
grand reopening of the Westend Police Substation
• Reported that he Boys and Girls Club of Santa Ana held their
annual Castle of Dreams event on Saturday, November 1, 2003
and it was a very successful fundraiser
• Congratulated Councilmember Christy for her involvement at
Planetarium VIP day on October 25, 2003 at the Tessmann
Planetarium
Councilmember Christy
• Commented that she also attended the Boys and Girls Club event
at Joe's Garage in Tustin and applauded John and Cindy Brewster
for their active involvement in the Boys and Girls Club
• Noted that the Westend substation reopening was a very
successful event and that the substation makes a difference in
community relations
• Congratulated Corporal Eric Rimat for his involvement as President
of the Orange County Police Canine Association in the Annual
Police Canine Benefit Show at Eddie West Stadium on Sunday,
November 2, 2003

• Recognized and thanked the four Santa Ana engine companies and
Battalion Chief dispatched to fight the recent wildland fires in
Southern California

• Invited residents to volunteer for Neighborhood Clean-up day on
November 8, 2003, at Campesino and Santa Anita parks;
additionally, she invited residents to volunteer to help at the Artesia-
Pilar neighborhood Clean-up day on November 15, 2003
• Wished all residents a Happy Thanksgiving and thanked community
members for all their contributions in the community including
recent efforts to reopen the Westend substation; she further
thanked the Police Department for their work in the City and the
Fire Department for their efforts in fighting the recent wildland fires;
she also thanked City employees for believing in the City

• Asked the City Manager to present a timeline on the proposed
Centerline project to the City Council
• Announced that there would be an open house scheduled for Fire
Station # 1 and also to introduce the City's New Fire Chief
• Asked Acting Fire Chief Ray Comeau to give a brief presentation on
the four Santa Ana strike teams that responded to the wildland fires
plaguing the Southern California Area. Chief Comeau reported that
four engine companies (#2, 3, 4 and 6) and Battalion Chief Randy
Black responded to requests for help. The first unit was called on
October 24, 2003 and responded to the Glen Helen Base camp in
San Bernardino County. Santa Ana Engine 3 also reported to the
Glen Helen Base Camp, and both units fought fires in the
communities of Alta Loma, Upland, Claremont, Rancho
Cucamonga and San Bernardino. They worked without rest for the
first 24 hours. All four units were utilized in the fight to protect
property and lives
• Asked that the Council adjourn in memory of Novato Firefighter
Steve Rucker who lost his life fighting the wildland fires
• Encouraged citizens to contact the Parks and Recreation
Department for information concerning sponsorship of park
benches in City Parks
