RESOLUTION NO. 2004-015 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCil OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA SUPPORTING STATE FUNDING OF EIGHT PROJECTS AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE PUBLIC WORKS AGENCY TO SUBMIT THE PROJECTS FOR FUNDING UNDER THE STATE'S SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL PROGRAM BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCil OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS FOllOWS: Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines and declares as follows: A. In 1999 the State of California enacted into law Assembly Bill (AB) 1475 that calls for Caltrans to establish and administer a "Safe Routes to School" construction program ("Program") and to use federal transportation funds for the construction of bicycle, pedestrian safety, and traffic calming projects; and . B. AB 1475 mandates that Caltrans shall make grants available to local governmental agencies under the Program based on the results of a statewide competition; and C. Projects eligible for funding include construction projects that improve the safety of pedestrian and/or bicycle routes to and from schools; and D. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana possesses the legal authority to nominate, finance, acquire, and construct projects that are eligible for funding under the AB 1475 Program; and E. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana supports efforts to improve pedestrian safety in the City of Santa Ana. Section 2. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana supports State funding of projects in the City of Santa Ana under AB 1475, California's Safe Routes to School Program, and authorizes the Executive Director of the Public Works Agency or his designee to execute in the name of the City of Santa Ana all necessary applications required to be submitted to Caltrans for the eight projects identified in Exhibit 1 for funding under California's Safe Routes to School Program. . Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by the City Council, and the Clerk of the Council shall attest to and certify the vote adopting this Resolution.
