RECOMMENDED ACTION
Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and
Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with Hernandez Productions in
an amount not to exceed $25,000 to produce the Mother's Day Mariachi
'Celebration entertainment.
ttISCUSSION
The City of Santa Ana, the Friends of Santa Ana Parks and Recreation and
various community volunteers are coordinating the Third Annual Mother's Day
Celebration with Mariachi music, scheduled for Saturday, May 8, 2004 at the
Santa Ana Stadium. The event is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. and end at
,5:00 p.m. and features the world famous Mariachi Sol de Mexico and Mariachi
Reyna de Los Angeles, both managed by Hernandez Productions. Mariachi Reyna
de Los Angeles, the all female group, is returning for its third
engagement. Hernandez Productions will also provide a ballet folklorico,
lariat entertainment, coordination of rehearsals and numbers, back stage
management and stage design. An aggressive ticket sales plan is being
implemented and includes allowing the City' sneighborhood associations to
sell tickets as a fundraiser.
'The Agency, along with the Friends of Santa Ana Parks and Recreation,
manages an ongoing fundraising campaign that helps supplement the budget
for community events such as concerts, parades, youth holiday celebrations
and other similar events. Due to this success, funds are available in the
Community Affairs budget to cover the cost of the proposed agreement with
Hernandez Productions.
