RECOMMENDED ACTION
Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and
the Clerk of the Council to execute an amendment to agreement A2002-0S1
with Motorola for an additional amount of $113,000 for the purchase of
800MHz radio equipment.
8DISCUSSION
On April 15, 2002, the City Council approved an agreement with Motorola
for the purchase of 800 Megahertz radio equipment for various city
departments. The radio equipment was purchased to enhance the
effectiveness of internal communications between police, fire, and other
city agencies, as well as to improve communication with other public
safety jurisdictions.
The Fire Department currently does not have a sufficient quantity of
radios for each position on tactical fire companies. Staff recommends
the purchase of additional radios to further enhance communication and
improve the overall safety of firefighters by providing each member with
a means of communicating emergency information.

Funds are available in Fire Communications
Supplies account (account no. 11-322-6391).
