RECOMMENDED ACTION
Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and
the Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with Southern California
.-Regional Railroad Authority for improvements to the Metrolink railroad
~rossing on Grand Avenue for a total cost of $280,460.
DISCUSSION
Beginning in September, Grand Avenue will be widened between McFadden
Avenue and Chestnut Avenue to provide three lanes in each direction.
Within the limits of this project is a railroad crossing operated by the
Southern California Regional Railroad Authority (SCRRA). The project
requires the existing railroad crossing protection system to be removed
and replaced to accommodate the widening.
The new railroad crossing protection system includes automatic gates,
bells and signals, and conforms to the current requirements of the
California Public Utility Commission. Additional rubber panels within
the railroad right of way will be constructed to accommodate the widening
section of Grand Avenue.
The proposed agreement requires the SCRRA to construct and the City to
pay for the railroad work. SCRRA's staff has estimated the cost of the
railroad work to be $280,460.
