RECOMMENDED ACTION
Award a contract to Spectrum Gas Products for medical oxygen gas
service and hydrostatic testing for a one-year period in an annual
4IÞ amount not to exceed $15,371.
DISCUSSION
The Santa Ana Fire Department carries medical oxygen on 33 fire
apparatus and paramedic vans. The replenishing of standard size oxygen
cylinders is necessary for efficiency and emergency preparedness. The
service provider will pick up, refill, and return oxygen cylinders
twice weekly to Fire Station No.5. In order to meet Department of
Transportation requirements, the vendor will also perform hydrostatic
testing of all oxygen cylinders and breathing apparatus on an as needed
basis to check for safe pressurization.
The notice inviting bids was advertised on May 5 and 7, 2004, and bids
were solicited. A summary of the bid invitations and bids received is
as follows:
