NO. 04-068) APPROVED [J As Recommended [J As Amended [J Ordinance on 1 st Reading [J Ordinance on 2nd Reading [J Implementing Resolution [J Set Public Hearing For I14i2 CONTINUED TO ( - FILE NUMBER CITY MANAGER RECOMMENDED ACTION Award a contract to SYS Technology, systems in the amount of $19,583.57. 8 DISCUSSION Inc. for the purchase of computer On June 2, 2003, the City Council approved the award of a $275,000 grant to the Police Department from the State of California Office of Traffic Safety. The grant allowed funding for the Police Department's Traffic Section to deploy a mobile, multi-media Driving Under the Influence (D. U. I .) education and driving simulation classroom custom designed fifth-wheel trailer. The trailer will be taken to Santa Ana high schools, colleges, and other venues with the goal of providing an educational program to students ages 15-22. The D.U.I. mobile classroom will showcase an externally projected video, and feature contemporary music and content designed to appeal to the younger driver. In December 2003, the City entered into an agreement with Mattman Special ty Vehicles for the purchase of a mobile multi -media D. U. I . classroom fifth-wheel trailer. Upon completion, the trailer requires installation of 10 computer systems in order to be operational as a classroom. The computers will be linked together in a network configuration, and a computerized driving simulation software program will allow the students to drive as if alcohol impaired within a virtual world, giving the students experience on how motor skills are 8 affected while driving when intoxicated. 22H-1 os.
