NO. 04-083) CONTINUED TO - FILE NUMBER CITY MANAGER RECOMMENDED ACTION Award contracts for the purchase of furniture based upon the U. S. Communities and County of Orange contracts for a total aggregate amount 8 not to exceed $87,500 with the following vendors: Haworth, Inc. School Specialty Steel case (Tangram Interiors) McMahan Desk Virco Herman Miller, Inc. DISCUSSION In April 2000, the City Council approved construction of the Crean Family Farm, a new children's zoo on a two-acre site at the Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park. The farm includes eight buildings, including a two-story barn with education classroom. To facilitate the educational benefits the farm offers to visitors, furniture items such as folding tables, folding and stacking chairs, lecterns, and audiovisual carts are needed. In addition, the City occasionally purchases various furniture items for staff. The items include: desks, modular and computer workstations, seating, filing and storage cabinets, bookcases, and ergonomic keyboard platforms with articulating arms. U. s. Communities recently awarded contracts for furniture with manufacturers such as Haworth, Herman Miller, Inc., School Specialty, Steel case (Tangram Interiors), and Virco. The County of Orange has a 8 contract with McMahan Desk, a dealer that represents various manufacturers such as: Ergonomic Comfort Design (ECD), McDowell-Craig, WorkRite, Hon, and Verst eel. 22P-1 cs. No. 04-083) June 21, 2004 Page 2 Furniture The City Council adopted Ordinance No. NS-2312 authorizing purchase against contracts with other government agencies competi ti ve bid process. The recommended vendors for the furniture were awarded contracts as a result of open, bidding, and meet the City's requirements.
