DISCUSSION In 2003, the City received Roberti Z'Berg Harris Grant funds to replace the aviary netting for the Colors of the Amazon Aviary due to deterioration. The new netting will provide added security for the animals in the aviary exhibit as well as provide a durable, long lasting enclosure with minimal maintenance costs. Three qualified firms were contacted, A Thru Z, International Cordage and Nets Unlimited. Due to limited staff resources only one firm, A Thru Z, submitted a proposal. A Thru Z has prior experience in working with the City, having installed the original netting for the Aviary. Both the Public Works and Parks and Recreation Community Services Agencies are familiar with their expertise in the aviary netting field. Based on these qualifications, staff recommends the firm of A Thru Z be retained for the required services in the not-to-exceed amount of $245,000. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT Pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act, Environmental Review No. 2002-304 has been completed and a Negative Declaration has been filed for this project. 25R-1 Agreement to Provide Design/Build Services for the Replacement of Aviary Netting At the Santa Ana Zoo (Project 04-6402) November 15, 2004 Page 2 FISCAL IMPACT Funds for the proposed work are available in the Recreation and Community Services Roberti Z'Berg-Harris Grant Fund (account no. 161-270-6631). ~~RO~ Executive Director Public Works Agency APPROVED AS TO FUNDS AND ACCOUNTS: ;://.7 , ~^' loma Director & Mgmt.
