DISCUSSION
This is the fourth year the Santa Ana Police Department has received
funding for the Tobacco-Free Communities Services Program. Funded through
Orange County On Track, the Tobacco-Free Communities Services Program is a
collaborative effort involving health care professionals, city officials,
law enforcement, schools, faith communities, media, business and parents to
initiate a community campaign to reduce tobacco use and exposure to
environmental tobacco smoke.
The Orange County On Track Organization received a County of Orange Health
Care Agency grant funded by the National Tobacco Settlement to help create
a Tobacco-Free Community in Santa Ana. The Police Department will receive
$30,000 for use in enforcement and education efforts relating to the
illegal sale of tobacco to minors. Activities will include creating
posters, attending community clean-ups, encouraging smoke free activities
and training staff and community members to educate the public of the
health risks associated with tobacco use.
