RECOMMENDED ACTION
Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and
Clerk of the Council to execute a two-year agreement with LexisNexis,
Inc. for legal publications and on-line research services not to exceed
$30,000.
DISCUSSION
On-line legal research is an integral part of the City Attorney's
Office. In April of 1999 the City Attorney's Office contracted with West
Group for on-line legal research services. Since then, the office has
annually reviewed the associated costs with this service and alternate
service providers. In our continuing effort to reduce savings we have
elected to change our service provider.
After reviewing proposals, the City Attorney's Office selected to
contract with LexisNexis. The LexisNexis contract includes on-line
access for all attorneys and City Attorney Office staff. The monthly
fee with the new provider is at a savings of $500 from our current
provider. In addition, the City will receive a 50 percent discount on
print material purchased from LexisNexis for an additional savings of
$2,400.
