RECOMMENDED ACTION
Authorize the sale of one surplus police canine vehicle to the Santa Ana
Unified School District Police Department.
D:ISCUSS:ION
The Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) Police Department seeks to
add a canine to their force in order to enhance their law enforcement
activities. Due to budget constraints, SAUSD does not have enough funds to
purchase a new vehicle and furnish it with all the necessary equipment for
a canine unit. SAUSD will purchase a surplus Chevrolet Caprice canine
vehicle from the Santa Ana Police Department for $3,000. The vehicle is
equipped with a canine conversion kit, light bar, Unitrol, center console,
temp sensor and door pop system. The sale of this vehicle to the SAUSD
Police Department may alleviate calls for service requiring canine response
by the Santa Ana Police Department.
F:ISCAL :IMPACT
Approval of the sale will increase revenue in the Equipment Replacement-
Sale of Equipment account (account no. 076-01-5715) by $3,000.
