A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA
SUPPORTING THE CITY OF ANAHEIM'S EFFORTS TO
RETAIN THE NAME "ANAHEIM ANGELS"
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines
and declares as follows:
G.
A.
In 1961, Gene Autry purchased a team franchise from Major League
Baseball, which team was located in the City of Los Angeles and named
the Los Angeles Angels.
B.
The team was relocated by Gene Autry from the City of Los Angeles to the
City of Anaheim and, with the beginning of the 1966 baseball season,
commenced playing its home games in Anaheim Stadium as the California
Angels.
C.
In 1996, the then team owner and the City of Anaheim executed a long-
term agreement arranging for the team to continue playing its home
games in the City of Anaheim, providing for the City to contribute more
than $20,000,000 toward the remodeling of Anaheim Stadium, and
requiring the team name to include the name "Anaheim" commencing with
the 1997 baseball season.
D.
In conformance with its contractual obligations, the then team owner
changed the team name from the California Angels to the Anaheim Angels
by which name such team has been known, branded and identified since
1997.
E.
In 2002 the Anaheim Angels baseball team won its first, and to date, only
Major League Baseball World Series championships, wearing "Anaheim"
jerseys in ballparks across the nation.
F.
The Orange County community takes pride in the fact that the Anaheim
Angels are identified with Orange County and the surrounding region, and
takes pride in the recognition the Anaheim Angels have brought to the
entire County of Orange and surrounding region.
The Anaheim Angels name brings economic benefits to the community
relative to, among other things, national and international recognition,
tourism, conventions, and business.

Angeles Dodgers", which has played its home games in Los Angeles
since 1958.
