HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-14-1981MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA April 14, 1981 The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m., by Mayor Ward in the City Council Chambers, 22 Civic Center Plaza. Councilmembers present were Gordon Bricken, Robert W. Luxembourger, J. Ogden Markel, A1 fred C. Serrato, Harry K. Yamamoto, and Mayor James E. Ward. Councilmembers-elect John Acosta and Patricia McGuigan were also present as were City Manager A. J. Wilson, City Attorney Edward J. Cooper, and Clerk of the Council Janice C. Guy. INVOCATION PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE Following the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag led by Councilmember Serrato, the Invocation was given by Councilmember J. Ogden Markel. PRESENTATIONS BY RETIRING COUNCILMEMBER YAMAMOTO AND MAYOR WARD families and reflected on their years of Councilmember Harry K. Yamamoto and Mayor James E. Ward, respectively addressed Council and the audience; each introduced men~bers of their service to the City of Santa Ana. ADJOURNMENT SINE DIE Mayor Ward adjourned the meeting sine die and turned the chair over to the Clerk of the Council. ROLL CALL The Clerk of the Council called the INSTALLATION OF NEWLY-ELECTED roll and administered the Oath of COUNCILM~MBERS Office to incumbent Councilmembers Gordon Bricken and Daniel Griset, followed by administration of the Oath of Office to new Councilmembers John Acosta and Patricia McGuigan. The new Councilmembers then took their places at the Council dais and retiring Councilmembers Ward and Yamamoto stepped down. ELECTION OF MAYOR by Luxembourger to close the nominations. The Clerk of the Council accepted the nomination by Luxem~ourger of Gordon Bricken as Mayor. MOTION was then made by Griset, seconded Motion by Markel to nominate Robert Luxembourger as Mayor died for lack of a second. Original motion to close the nominations passed on the following vote: AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Acosta, Bricken, Griset, Luxembourger, McGuigan, Serrato Markel None Councilmember Markel then withdrew his motion. Councilmember Bricken was elected Ma.vor by acclamation. CHAIR PASSED TO MAYOR BY CLERK The Clerk of the Council turned the meeting over to Mayor Bricken. ELECTION OF VICE MAYOR Acosta to close the nominations. The Mayor accepted the nomination by Griset of Robert Luxembourger as Vice Mayor. MOTION was then made by Serrato, seconded by CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 121 APRIL 14, 1981 Motion passed on the following vote: AYES: NOES: ABSENT: Acosta, Bricken, Griset, Luxembourger, Markel, McGuigan, Serrato None None Councilmember Luxembourger was elected Vice Mayor by acclamation. RECESS TO CRA At 7:50 p.m., Council recessed to the Community Redevelopment Agency. RECONVENE COUNCIL At 7:57 p.m., Council reconvened with the same members present. ADJOURNMENT in Room 831, 20 Civic Center Plaza.
