The Executive Director of the C~,uLunications and Marketing Division

depar~m~ent's four functional areas of Cable TV, City Council
Communications Support, Marketing, and Public Information. Following the
presentation, she responded to Councilmembers' questions and c~mments

between the marketing function perfonmed in the Communications and
Marketing Division as opposed to that of the Economic Development Agency,

within City Hall, the reasons for increases in the Department's budget,
and Division funding from General Revenue Sharing funds.
Councilm~nber Young encouraged staff to develop a logo or symbol for the
City's Cable TV channel with more marketing appeal, suggested the
marketing program in the City be consolidated under a marketing ccn~ittee,
and requested cost projections for the City's total marketing efforts.
Councilmember Young explained to the Councilmembers that he had had
several discussions with staff relative to development of a City magazine.
The City Manager provided background on staff's efforts relative to
production of a City magazine, "Santa Ana Today," which would consolidate
several brochures currentlybeing published by the City into a monthly
magazine, which would be privately published and eventually a profit-making
venture.
Councilme~ber McGuigan expressed concern that the brochure was to be
published in English only, and stated such an expenditure was difficult to
