February 6, 2003
MINUTES
The meeting was convened at 5:50 p.m. in the City Hall, Room 831.
The following Council Members were present: Alberta Christy
Mike Garcia
Staffs present were: Jon "Rip" Ribble, Exec. Dir., PRCSA

1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
ACTION: Minutes of November 7,2002 meeting were approved as submitted.

YOUTH EXPO UPDATE
Staff presented an update of the fourth annual Youth Expo event scheduled for
Sunday, March 16, 2003, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event will be
conducted at Centennial Regional Park.

Posters were delivered to the Santa Ana Unified School District, Garden Grove
Unified School District, Parochial and private schools. Approximately 1 ,000
flyers were delivered to each intermediate and high school. Every elementary
school student will also be given a flyer to take home. The flyers will also be
distributed at libraries and other governmental buildings. Food and drink will be
sold by local high school and college groups as a fund raiser and incentive for
the student participation at this event.
The Santa Ana Unified School District will be co-sponsoring the event by
assigning staff and communicating information to the students.
To date, the following organizations have confirmed their attendance at the Expo:
. Academy of International Dance
. UCI Medical Center
. Hometown Buffet
. Orange County Fire Ant Authority
. Santa Ana Work Force Investment Board Youth Council
. Toyama Karate Do

Entertainment will occur in both showmobile stages. The following groups have
tentatively confirmed to perform:
. Ballet Folklorico Renacimiento
. Academy of International Dance
. Orange County High School of the Arts
. Mexican Cultural Center of Orange County
. Jodaiko Japanese Drum Ensemble of UCI
. O.C. Department of Education Salsa Teens Group "Sabor Latino"
Staff anticipates the event will attract a minimum of 10,000 participants between
the ages of 8 - 21 years old.
3. MOTHER'S DAY FESTIVAL
The second annual Mother's Day festival will be conducted on Saturday, May 10,
2003, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., at the Santa Ana Stadium. Admission to the
event will be $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids 12 years and under.
Last year's attendance was approximately 2,000 people. The event cost was
approximately $29,353, which was raised through ticket sales, private donations,
and City General Fund.

A letter requesting corporate sponsorship was sent out to various companies. At
this time, Tustin Nissan Dealership offered to provide free advertisement and
Mervyn's Corporate Office is considering making a donation for this event.
ACTION ITEM:
1) Council Committee requested staff to look at setting up a photo booth at the
event.
2) Council member Garcia indicated he would contact the Honda Dealership for
A possible donation.
3) Council member Alberta Christy indicated she would contact Crevier BMW
and Don Kennedy for possible donations.

The Committee agreed to meet on the first Thursday of each month at 5:45 p.m.

ITEMS FOR FUTURE MEETING
1) Review programs being offered by the agency to address budget issues.
2) Review the fees' structure for the Parks, Recreation and Community Services
Agency.
3) Invite the Santa Ana Unified School District Program Coordinator for
discussion on co-sponsorships and After school programs.
Meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
