MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
BETWEEN THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AND
SA NT A ANA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
FOR THE PERIOD OF JULY 1, 2000 TO JUNE 30, 2001

Whereas the Santa Ana Unified School District (hereinafter "District") and the
City of Santa Ana (hereinafter "City") have provided school students with instruction on
the hazards of drug abuse through the Drug Awareness Resistance Education (DARE)
Program, and such training has been shown to be effective in reducing the likelihood of
drug experimentation and dependence.
Whereas the District and the City which to continue DARE instruction in schools;
Now, therefore, in consideration of the mutual promises of the parties herein, the District
and the City agree as follows:
1. The City and the District agree to enter into the Memorandum of Understanding
(hereinafter "MOU").
2. This MOU will cover the period from July 1,2000 to June 30, 2001, and shall be
renewable on an annual basis thereafter.
3. The District will pay the City an amount of $28,000 for the period of July 1, 2000
to June 30, 2001, as partial compensation for four qualified civilian DARE
instructors employed by the Santa Ana Police Department. Payment shall be
made to the City, by cost reimbursement, within 30 days ofthe receipt of an
invoice from the City. Payment beyond June 30, 2001 will be mutually agreed
upon annually and paid, by cost reimbursement, within 30 calendar days of the.
receipt of an invoice from the City to be submitted no more frequently than
monthly. The City will contribute the remainder of the $265,520 for DARE
instructors.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the parties hereto have executed this Memorandum of
Agreement on May 10, 2000.
