DISCUSSION In January 2004, the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency was successful in receiving a Title II grant award from the State Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Corrections Standards Authority for the implementation of the Leadership Development Strategy. The program was successfully developed and implemented at the McFadden Learning and Technology Center. This appropriation adjustment will recognize $200,000 from the Corrections Standards Authority, formerly the Board of Corrections, for the third year of a three-year agreement. The intent of the program is to provide a comprehensive, coordinated approach to the problems of juvenile delinquency through the cooperative efforts of the community and law enforcement. The Leadership Development Strategy was developed as a supplemental service with the purpose of reducing the number of suspensions and expulsions at target area schools. Program activities include leadership development opportunities, peer and police officer mentoring, teen club activities, tutoring, educational excursions, family oriented recreation activities, and parent education workshops. The program will continue to serve a total of 60 students and their families from the Santa Ana Unified School District. 20C-1 State Department Title II Program Grant Award June 19, 2006 Page 2 FISCAL IMPACT The appropriation adjustment will enhance the Corrections Standards Authority - Title II DPI Program Year 3 revenue account (account no. 155- 01-5369-2) and expenditure accounts (account nos. 155-358-various) by $200,000.
