DISCUSSION
The roof of Fire Station 9 has been evaluated and is recommended for
replacement. The existing roof is approximately 16 years old and no longer
cost-effective to repair and maintain. The foam roofing system proposed is
comprised of a seamless layer of rigid polyurethane foam covered with two
coats of protective silicone rubber. The completed system provides a
durable and effective insulation with superior protection against all
weather conditions. The replacement roof will include a 25-year warranty
and, if properly maintained, provide a longer life.
On June 19, 2006, Council awarded a contract to Foam Experts Roofing, Inc.
for the reroofing of the Southwest Senior Center. Because Foams Experts
Roofing, Inc. provided the lowest responsive bid and completed the work to
staff's satisfaction, staff believes an additional solicitation for bids
would be an idle act and recommends approval. To allow for unanticipated
requirements, an additional contingency amount has been included in the
award amount.
