RECOMMENDED ACTION
Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and
Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement amendment with the Friends
of Santa Ana Zoo, extending their current agreement and providing
additional terms and conditions.
DISCUSSION
The Friends of Santa Ana Zoo is a nonprofit 501 (c) 3 agency, which was
incorporated in 1982 as the Friends of the Children's Zoo and later as
the Friends of the Santa Ana Zoo. Their purpose is to market and solicit
charitable donations to support the operation, maintenance and expansion
of the Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park. The Friends coordinate many
planning and fundraising efforts, including the annual Boo at the Zoo and
Zoofari events, and provide staffing and maintenance for the Zoofari
Express Train Ride and the Zoo Gift Shop.
This agreement amendment will provide additional terms and conditions
that address the concession operation, facility rentals, insurance
requirements and revenue sharing. The Parks, Recreation and Communi ty
Services Agency anticipates receiving approximately $20,000 in annual
revenue from the Friends of Santa Ana Zoo, which will help fund
veterinary services, operations and maintenance. This amendment also
provides for annual review of the agreement, as recommended by the
Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

FISCAL IMPACT
Revenue from this agreement will be deposited in the Recreation Special
Fees and Donations account (account no. 22-01-5798) to help fund Zoo
operations and maintenance.
