ADOPTION OF GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION RESULTS Motion: Adopt resolution. RESOLUTION NO. 2006-082 - A resolution of the City Council of the City of Santa Ana declaring the results of the General Municipal Election held in said City on November 7,2006 - Clerk of the Council Office MOTION: Solorio SECOND: Bustamante VOTE: AYES: Alvarez, Bist, Bustamante, Christy, Garcia, Pulido, Solorio (7) NOES: None (0) ABSENT: None (0) CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 386 NOVEMBER 29, 2006 2. 2004-2006 COUNCIL CONCLUSION Outgoing members, Mayor Pro Tem Bistand Councilmembers Christy and Garcia addressed the public and made closing comments related to their respective tenures on the City Council. Mayor Pulido adjourned the 2004-2006 City Council Meeting at 6:48 p.m. 3. CLERK OF THE COUNCIL ASSUMES CHAIR Oaths of Office administered by the Clerk of the Council to: Michele Martinez David Benavides Sal Tinajero Miguel Pulido Councilmember, Ward 2 Councilmember, Ward 4 Councilmember, Ward 6 Mayor 4. CHAIR RETURNED TO MAYOR PULIDO 2006-2008 CITY COUNCIL COMMENCEMENT CALL TO ORDER 2006-2008 City Council ROLL CALL COUNCILMEMBERS Present MIGUEL A. PULIDO, Mayor CLAUDIA ALVAREZ DAVID BENAVIDES CARLOS BUSTAMANTE MICHELE MARTINEZ JOSE SOLORIO SAL TINAJERO ELECTION OF MAYOR PRO TEM 1. The Mayor called for nominations for the position of Mayor Pro Tem. Councilmember Tinajero nominated Councilmember Alvarez, and Councilmember Solorio nominated Councilmember Bustamante. Motion: Close nominations for position of Mayor Pro Tem. MOTION: Tinajero SECOND: Martinez VOTE: AYES: Alvarez, Benavides, Bustamante, Martinez, Pulido, Solorio, Tinajero (7) NOES: None (0) None (0) ABSENT: CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 387 NOVEMBER 29, 2006 Mayor Pulido asked the Clerk of the Council to call the roll and asked each member to orally cast his or her vote for either of the two candidates nominated for the position of Mayor Pro Tem. Following is the result of the roll call vote: Councilmember Alvarez voted for Councilmember Alvarez Councilmember Benavides voted for Councilmember Bustamante Councilmember Bustamante voted for Councilmember Bustamante Councilmember Martinez voted for Councilmember Alvarez Councilmember Solorio voted for Councilmember Bustamante Councilmember Tinajero voted for Councilmember Alvarez Mayor Pulido voted for Councilmember Bustamante The Clerk of the Council announced the results of the balloting: Councilmember Bustamante received four (4) votes and Councilmember Alvarez received three (3) votes. The Mayor announced that Councilmember Bustamante was elected to the position of Mayor Pro T em by a vote of 4-3. 3. REMARKS BY NEWLY ELECTED COUNCILMEMBERS AND MAYOR PULIDO Councilmember Martinez . Thanked her Mother for all her support and thanked the individuals who believed in her including her campaign committee . Thanked her grade school principal for guiding her in the right direction . Thanked her new employer, Mr. Bill Cook of Conquist America for his support and confidence in her Councilmember Benavides . Thanked each of the outgoing Councilmembers and thanked his family for their support . Thanked his supporters and campaign volunteers . Cited the need to address the condition of streets in the City and promised to make public safety a top priority . Announced that he will be scheduling quarterly town meetings to provide information on upcoming projects; noted that the first meeting will be held December 13, 2006 at the Southwest Senior Center, and that the topic would be on the City Boards and Commissions application process Council member Tinaiero . Thanked his wife for all her support and also his family for their continuous support . Noted that the City has accomplished a lot but that there is a need to devote more resources to streets and libraries . Noted that he was excited that Supervisor Correa was elected to the State Senate and that Councilmember Solorio was going to Sacramento as a State Assemblyman CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 388 NOVEMBER 29, 2006 . Noted that Santa Ana had quality leaders and thanked the outgoing Council members Mayor Pulido · Noted that Councilmember Martinez requested that the Council adjourn in memory of Cynthia Yvonne Guerra-payan who was born and raised in the City, attended Mater Dei and was a mentor to youth in the City . Noted that Santa Ana today is a dramatically different city and that it has changed for the better in the last few years . Further noted that the City can still accomplish more and this will be the challenge for the new Council . Stated that since the voters approved Measure M and the infrastructure bond measures, there will be more money available to achieve the vision of the Council .
