RECOMMENDED ACTION
Award a contract to Altec Industries, Inc., under the Cooperative Purchase
Provision of the City of Los Angeles, for the purchase of one lift truck
with aerial device in the amount not to exceed $90,234.56.
DISCUSSION
The Fleet Maintenance Division's annual Equipment Replacement Program is
included in the City's annual budget and identifies vehicles scheduled for
replacement. Funding is monitored through a depreciation schedule
established with each department. Additionally, the Fleet Division reviews
the acquisition in accordance with the City's Hybrid and Alternative Fuel
Vehicle Acquisition Policy. Currently, hybrid vehicles are not available in
the heavy-duty truck line.
The General Maintenance Section of the Parks, Recreation and Community
Services Agency maintains 39 park facilities, the Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice
Park and the Civic Center. The department utilizes a manlift truck to
perform tree trimming, lighting replacement, and general maintenance
including required painting. Due to age, worn condition and engine hours,
a 1991 Ford manlift truck has been approved for replacement in the current
fiscal year.
Santa Ana City Ordinance No. NS-2312 authorizes the City to purchase
against contracts from any public agency utilizing a competitive bid
process. The City of Los Angeles contract with Altec Industries, Inc. for
an Altec AT37G aerial device on a Ford F550 truck was awarded as a result
of open, competitive bidding, and meets the City's requirements.
