Motion: Adopt resolution.
RESOLUTION NO. 2000-081 - A resolution of the City Council of the City
of Santa Ana authorizing a loan from the City of Santa Ana to the South
Main Project Area of the Community Redevelopment Agency of the City
of Santa Ana of a portion of the transient occupancy tax generated by the
proposed DoubleTree Hotel - Community Development Agency

Jim Walker announced that the City of Santa Ana City Council was the first to
recognize "Red Ribbon Week"

Reminded residents that there had been sightings of coyotes in the
Santiago Creek area and that they should keep their pets protected
and safe

COMMENTS
Noted that on tonight's agenda, the Council approved a two year
agreement for transportation service at the senior centers, and asked
staff to explain how residents could access this service
Councilmember Solorio
• Thanked the residents and business and community leaders who
voted for him in the November election
• Announced that there would be a pictorial exhibit entitled "Fire in the
Morning" displayed in the Old Court House from October 30, 2000
through Spring 2001
• Noted that an agreement had been reached by the Orange County
Board of Supervisors and Newport Beach relative to the night curfew
at John Wayne Airport and that the City of Santa Ana was pursuing an
extension of this curfew past 2005

• Welcomed the two new members of the City Council
• Congratulated Wilshire Square on its successful December 2, 2000
Concert
• Announced that she had attended the graduation ceremony for young
computer geniuses from Willard Elementary School; she noted that the
five students who graduated each received new computers
Councilmember Christy
• Welcomed the new members of the City Council
• Related the events of the "Children of the Dream" week, including the
successful reception at the Bowers Museum; thanked Dr. Peter Keller
for the use of the Bowers Museum
• Noted that she had attended a performance by kids at risk at the Nixon
Library
• Asked the City Manager to develop an oral history program to
preserve the experiences of many City pioneers and to maintain a
video or audio historical record in the City's history archives
• Wished everyone a happy holiday season and announced that earlier
in the evening there was a Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Sasser
Park
Councilmember Alvarez
• Thanked the community for supporting her in the November election,
and thanked her Mother, other family members and supporters
• Thanked the City Council and staff for helping her in her new duties
• Congratulated Pat McGuigan on her election as Mayor Pro Tem

Councilmember McGuigan
Reminded residents that the Bowers Museum exhibit on the Egyptian
Treasures would be in Santa Ana for only a short time and that
admission was free on Friday nights
Noted that there was an article in the Home Design Section of the Los
Angeles Times on Dr. Keller and the artifacts he has collected in his
travels
Reminded everyone that tonight's meeting was the last televised
meeting of the year 2000 and asked everyone to drive carefully over
the holidays
